lodging
clark point inn - really tasty breakfast, very cute - across from a little harbor, reasonably priced too, doesn't look like the victorian era puked all over it
hikes
we did all of these in one day. i'm guessing most ppl would want to space this out more.

Beehive views
Sandy beach / Ocean Path
South Bubble
Bubble/Pemetic
- beehive trail - a bit scary if you are afraid of heights but pretty short hike and not as bad as it seems. does involve iron rungs though. has views all the way up. take the easier "bowl" trail back down that leads to a nice lake. i went with this hike over the precipice trail because I read a reviewer say that the precipice trail is harder/longer/not as nice views (aka "not as worth it") but I can't compare since I didn't do it. supposedly neither are as bad as breakneck.
- ocean path - nice way to see sandy beach and otter cliffs but more of a dirt path by the road so it's scenic and definitely good for ppl who just want to walk but the path itself could be nicer.
- south bubble - take the difficult way up for beautiful views at the top of Jordan Pond (i think). also fun to take pictures with the bubble rock (aka rock that looks like it's about to fall off the mountain) - there is an easier way to get to bubble rock but the views from the difficult end are way nicer. apparently north bubble is an easy subsequent hike and very pretty but didn't have time to do it.
- pemetic/bubble - also a strenuous hike up but amazing views at the top that are very worth it.
things to do
Eagle Lake
Sunrise at Cadillac Mtn
- park loop - nice loop to drive/bike on to check out the sights in an easy manner. didn't bike on it but some of the hills look pretty challenging.
- sunset - very pretty vantage point from eagle lake
- sunrise - wake up at like 4am (this depends on the time of year) and drive up to cadillac mountain summit, try to get there before the crowds show up, bring your coat - it's cold even during summer, super beautiful though! also, tends to get foggy so try to go on a clear day.
- popovers - jordan pond house near jordan pond has yummy popovers & tea for $10pp for 2 popovers. wait was a bit long / service is so so but still a nice activity.
general tips
- bug spray is good to have if you regularly get destroyed by mosquitoes like me. all of the bug bites I got on this trip were ones where they bit thru my clothing. bums.
- ll bean sponsors a shuttle around the park that seems to be pretty frequent but the one time we tried to take it it had stopped for the day at like 8pm-ish so...:(
- park pass is $25 for a week per car. you can get it from gift shops/park kiosks. you can probably get away without purchasing one but i think it's good to support the park since they maintain it very nicely.
- bar harbor is much closer to the park but more busy/touristy, southwest harbor is much quieter and a ~35 min drive. depends what you prefer.
food/drink
- matsumoto joe - tasty coffee in Bar Harbor
- side street cafe - paula deen rec'd mac and cheese. local blueberry soda. lobster roll was overrated.
- quietside ice cream shop - lobster pizza! pizza itself was nothing crazy but still fun to experience and it has a ton of lobster.
- wanted to check out beal's lobster pound but it closed by the time we got back to the area so, fail.
